A little about me

Hi there,

You’ve been reading my work for a while now. Some of you since day one.

In that time, I’ve written about Cabarrus County. That’s what I’m here for. But I’ve never really told you much about myself or how this started.

A year ago, I unexpectedly lost my job at The Independent Tribune. The paper still exists, but there are no full-time reporters left to cover the community.

I had a choice: step away from journalism, or find a new way to keep doing the work.

Though I took some time to reflect, it wasn’t a hard decision.

Cabarrus County is home. And I knew what would happen to local coverage if someone didn’t step up.

So I started The Cabarrus Compass.

I’ll have more to share on April 23, including something I’ve never done before. I hope you’ll tune in.
