A little less than a year ago, Concord city leaders gathered at the historic Webb Field to celebrate the beginning of a project designed to breathe new life into one of the city’s most storied athletic complexes.

On Monday, they returned to celebrate the finished product.

City leaders officially unveiled the newly renovated Academy-Gibson Athletic Fields — encompassing Webb, Gibson and McAllister fields — marking the completion of a major overhaul that brings artificial turf, upgraded facilities and other improvements to grounds that have been part of Concord’s sports history for more than a century.
