Aurora gives special-needs athletes a place to shine in winter guard
Founded in 2022 by Mike and Alex Holt, the Cabarrus County program has grown into an 18-member team and is the only one of its kind in North Carolina.
Mike Holt was attending a world winter guard competition several years ago, cheering on his son Alex — a member of the elite Étude Winter Guard — when one performance left a lasting impression.
A special-needs winter guard group from Miamisburg, Ohio had taken the floor.
“I just couldn’t get that off my mind,” Holt said of the group’s performance.
