Cabarrus County, Kannapolis schools to open on delayed schedules Thursday
Cabarrus County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay and Kannapolis City Schools on a three-hour delay as students return to in-person learning following winter weather disruptions.
Public school districts across Cabarrus County will operate on delayed schedules Thursday, Jan. 29, as lingering winter weather conditions continue to affect travel across the region.
Cabarrus County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay, while Kannapolis City Schools announced a three-hour delay for students.
Thursday will mark the first day this week that students in both districts return to in-person learning.
Cabarrus County Schools said the two-hour delay is intended to allow for safer travel during daylight hours for buses, student drivers, families and staff.
Under the two-hour delay:
Schools will begin two hours later than their normal start times.
School buses will run two hours later than usual.
Parent drop-off times will also be shifted two hours later.
Adjusted schedules, including individual school start times, parent drop-off windows and Kids:Plus opening times where applicable, are available at www.cabarrus.k12.nc.us/twohourdelay.
District officials said safety remains the top priority as road conditions continue to improve.
Kannapolis City Schools will operate on a three-hour delay Thursday.
According to the district:
Buses will arrive approximately three hours later than normal.
Before School Care programs will also be delayed by three hours.
Afternoon dismissal will remain on a normal schedule.
Some bus stops have been temporarily relocated due to road conditions, with affected families receiving direct notification.
Staff members were advised to travel when safe and arrive no later than two hours after their normal report time.
Kannapolis City Schools said updates regarding Friday operations will be shared late Thursday.
Both districts thanked families and staff for their patience and flexibility as winter weather impacts continue to be monitored.
