Cabarrus County Schools is potentially facing up to $4.2 million in proposed budget reductions — including possible cuts to key programs like VEX Robotics — while also continuing to grapple with long-standing concerns about state and local school funding as lawmakers in Raleigh still have not approved a new state budget.

But during Monday night’s Board of Education meeting, much of the public’s attention shifted to a different and deeply contentious issue: bathroom access and student safety.
