Cabarrus County Schools to Go Remote Monday while Kannapolis City Schools Closed
After Winter Storm Gianna dropped up to a foot of snow in parts of the county, the two districts announced different plans for Feb. 2.
Winter weather is disrupting school schedules across Cabarrus County on Monday, Feb. 2, with the county’s two public school districts taking different approaches.
Cabarrus County Schools announced Sunday that it will implement a Remote Learning Day on Monday due to the ongoing effects of Winter Storm Gianna, where many parts of the county received at least a foot of snow. District officials said the decision was made with student and staff safety as the top priority.
Students and families are instructed to log on to their individual school websites for remote learning instructions. Additional guidance and frequently asked questions are available through the district’s ParentSquare platform.
Kids:Plus will be closed Monday, and all afterschool and athletic activities are canceled. District staff have been instructed to check their email or the Finance Department webpage for further direction.

In addition, the Cabarrus County Board of Education meeting originally scheduled for Monday evening has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 6 p.m. District officials said any changes to Tuesday’s schedule will be communicated Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Kannapolis City Schools announced it will be closed for students on Monday, with the day forgiven and no remote learning required.
“All district, school, and work locations will be closed,” the district said in a social media post. Staff members will have the option of a remote workday and are encouraged to monitor district communications for follow-up information.
Kannapolis City Schools said an update on Tuesday operations will be shared as soon as conditions allow.
Both districts urged families and staff to continue monitoring official communication channels for updates and to prioritize safety as winter weather conditions persist across the region.
