The Cabarrus County Republican Party is accepting applications from individuals interested in filling the vacant seat on the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners following the resignation of Commissioner Larry Pittman, which took effect Sept. 30.
The party announced Thursday evening that its Executive Committee will review applications and recommend a candidate for appointment to the board by Oct. 30, in accordance with North Carolina law and party procedures.
Pittman resigned as he and his wife, Tammy, relocated to Pamlico County in eastern North Carolina. His departure cut short a four-year term that began in December 2024, following his election to the board the previous month.
A retired Presbyterian minister, Pittman previously served more than 11 years in the North Carolina House of Representatives, from 2011 through 2022. He had lived in Cabarrus County since 1990, when he moved to Concord to become pastor of McKinnon Presbyterian Church.
To be eligible, applicants must have been registered Republicans in Cabarrus County as of Oct. 30, 2025.
Interested individuals can request an application packet by emailing Chairman@cabarrus.gop.
Completed applications must include a cover letter, résumé and candidate vetting questionnaire. The deadline to submit all materials is 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24.
“We thank Commissioner Pittman for his service to Cabarrus County and are committed to a thorough and transparent process to identify a strong conservative who will continue to represent the values of our community,” said Jim Quick, chairman of the Cabarrus County Republican Party.
Under North Carolina law, when a county commissioner elected as a nominee of a political party leaves office before the end of their term, the remaining commissioners must consult with the executive committee of that party before filling the vacancy. If the party recommends a qualified individual within the statutory deadline, the board must appoint that person.
