In what has been an especially turbulent week in Cabarrus County, the sudden dismissal of County Manager Sean Newton has left many residents with questions. The Board of Commissioners voted 3–2 on Monday to terminate his contract.

Board Chair Jeff Jones, who has led the commission since June, had remained silent about the decision, declining to provide details after Monday’s meeting. On Thursday evening, however, he broke that silence with a statement on his Facebook page, emphasizing that proper procedures were followed.
