Concord Urges Residents to Prepare as Ice Storm Threat Looms
City crews are brining roads, staging electric teams, and sharing safety guidance ahead of potentially significant ice and power outages this weekend.

With uncertain winter weather expected to arrive this weekend, Concord officials are encouraging residents to prepare now and stay alert for possible impacts ranging from icy roads to power outages.
Conditions can change, but the Charlotte area could get hit with the potential for a quarter to three-quarters of an inch of ice. This could create massive power outages, which could last for several days.

Concord Transportation crews began brining primary roads Thursday afternoon and expect to wrap up preparations by early Friday. Plows and salt spreaders will remain on standby throughout the weekend.
Electric Systems staff have also staged crews and equipment to respond quickly in the event of outages. Residents who lose power are asked not to call 911 unless there is a life-threatening emergency.
Customers served by the City of Concord Electric Systems should report outages by calling 704-920-5555 or by tracking restoration efforts at: concordnc.gov/outages.

Local officials also shared several safety tips heading into the weekend:
Gather emergency supplies ahead of time, including flashlights, batteries, charged devices, and enough food and water for family members and pets.
Only use safe heating sources and never operate generators, grills, gasoline or propane heaters indoors. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors should be checked.
If roads are icy, stay home if possible. City crews and NCDOT will work to clear priority routes as conditions allow.
Make sure you have a way to stay informed, especially if the power goes out. Emergency alerts and backup communication methods are encouraged.
