A GoFundMe account honoring the memory of Yadira Hernandez Castro has been launched to support her family with funeral and memorial costs after the 18-year-old Concord resident was reported missing over the weekend and found deceased Monday following an extensive search.
“Our family is navigating unexpected funeral and memorial costs during this incredibly difficult time,” Castro’s older sister, Laura Han, wrote on the fundraiser page. “We are humbly asking for your support to give Yadira the dignified farewell she deserves.”
“Any donation, no matter the size, would mean the world to us,” she added. “Thank you for keeping our family in your thoughts.”
The fundraiser, launched Tuesday morning, had raised more than $2,200 as of Tuesday afternoon toward a goal of $40,000.
According to Concord police, Castro was reported missing by her family Sunday and was found deceased Monday following an extensive search involving multiple agencies and several members of the community.
Investigators suspect alcohol consumption and extreme cold temperatures contributed to her death and have said the current evidence does not suggest foul play. The investigation remains ongoing, and the official cause of death will be determined by the state medical examiner.
