Hazardous Roads Force Remote Learning and Closures Tuesday Across Cabarrus County
Kannapolis City Schools will shift to remote learning while Cabarrus County Schools will close outright as Winter Storm Fern continues to create hazardous travel conditions.
Winter Storm Fern continues to disrupt school operations across Cabarrus County, with both Kannapolis City Schools and Cabarrus County Schools announcing schedule changes for Tuesday, Jan. 27, due to lingering icy road conditions.
Kannapolis City Schools (KCS) will operate on a Remote Learning Day Tuesday, with all buildings closed to students. The district cited continued hazardous travel conditions as the reason for the shift.
Students will receive assignments and expectations directly from their schools, while staff were instructed to monitor district communications and supervisors for additional reporting guidance.
KCS officials said information regarding Wednesday operations will be shared “as soon as conditions allow” and urged families to continue monitoring district channels for updates.
“Thank you for your patience and flexibility, and please stay safe,” the district wrote in its announcement.
Cabarrus County Schools (CCS) also announced late Monday that all schools will be closed Tuesday due to hazardous road conditions across parts of the county.
There will not be a make-up day for CCS students, as extra instructional hours are already built into the calendar.
KIDS:PLUS will not operate Tuesday, and all athletic, extracurricular, and community-use events are canceled.
District employees were directed to check staff email or visit the Finance Department website for reporting instructions.
“The safety of our students and staff is a top priority for Cabarrus County Schools,” the district said. “Please be safe in your travels. Thank you for your support and understanding.”
