This week, the Special Olympics brought the Cabarrus County community together in a celebration of determination, joy, and unity at the Cabarrus Arena & Events Center.
Athletes from schools across the county competed with heart and pride, embodying the Special Olympics oath: “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”

Photographer Michael Anderson, alongside his son Dylan, spent two days documenting the event — capturing moments of euphoria, resilience, and connection.
“These events are more than competition — they’re about encouragement, connection, and celebrating every single victory, big or small,” Anderson shared on Facebook. “And the truth is, there’s always room for more people to step in and help. You don’t need recognition, you don’t need a reason—just a willingness to make a difference in someone else’s life.”
The following images highlight the spirit of Special Olympics, filled with laughter, competitive spirit, and camaraderie, showcasing a community coming together to support and uplift one another. Additional photos can be found on Anderson’s Facebook page.
