Inside the Junior Charity League of Concord’s decades-long mission to help clothe Cabarrus County children

Since 1973, the Mariam C. Schramm Clothing Room has provided new clothes, shoes and other essentials to local students — serving more than 1,000 children last year alone.

For nearly a century, the Junior Charity League of Concord has found different ways to meet the needs of children across Cabarrus County — from teaching young students how to stay safe to helping them see clearly in the classroom.

But for more than 50 of those years, one of its most enduring efforts has addressed an even more basic need: making sure children have quality clothes and shoes to wear.
