I think Chris Cooper may have emphasized this before, but the downstream impact of national politics in NC is very real. I think Morris is on to something when he alludes to Trump’s rise (roughly a decade ago) aligning with a fall in respect. Although I’d imagine the pre-Trump, Tea Party-esque faction was unhappy with GOP leadership, assuming that Morris represented a piece of that leadership.

A constituent led Town Hall will be held on Saturday, May 3, in the chapel at Barber Scotia College.

This event is being hosted by Community Civil Activist (https://communitycivilactivist.org/), a local non-partisan, non-profit organization and led by Cabarrus constituents.

We have invited our NC state house reps and state senators who include;

-Brian Echevarria, HD82

-Jonathan Almond, HD73

-Grant Campbell, HD83

-Todd Johnson, SD 35

-Chris Measmer, SD, 34

“Several other non-partisan groups are helping with the planning and logistics, however, this is constituent-focused with opportunity for residents across political lines to attend and ask questions and discuss important issues,” says organizer, Jaymond Bryant-Herron of Community Civil Activist.

Cabarrus County Democratic Party interim chair, Rosa Culver Sims agrees: “All are invited to attend. We are encouraging participation from all residents regardless of their political beliefs or affiliation.”

If anyone has questions they want addressed during the event, it's important to send those via email to cca@ConcordCivilActivist.com by noon, May 1.

One of the emcees for this Town Hall, Kimberly Biondi, from Red, Wine, & Blue, a non-partisan group of suburban women, adds, “We believe in the right to peacefully assemble and ensure the voices of NC constituents are heard. However, the emphasis on decorum and respectful dialogue will help ensure a productive conversation.”

“This a great opportunity for community engagement,” says Bryant-Herron. “We look forward to seeing y’all there!”
