Local chefs will put their culinary skills to the test later this month during a friendly competition benefiting Habitat for Humanity Cabarrus County.
The 2026 Food for Foundations Culinary Showdown will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at 73 & Main, 1467 N. Main St. in Mount Pleasant.
The event will feature local chefs competing to create dishes from mystery baskets of ingredients, with each chef receiving their basket just 48 hours before the competition.
Attendees will have an opportunity to taste each chef’s creation while supporting Habitat Cabarrus’ work to expand access to affordable housing in the community.
Habitat Cabarrus has begun announcing the chefs participating in this year’s competition, with Bob VanAtta of Cabarrus Cooking Company, David Sargent of Union Street Cafe and Chef G of Grounds & Vine among those scheduled to take part. The organization plans to reveal the rest of the lineup leading up to the event.
Food for Foundations combines the culinary competition with Habitat’s broader mission of helping local families obtain affordable housing.
