Open Door House has two homes for young adults aging out of foster care. Its vision is much bigger

The Concord nonprofit is planning a $1.2 million duplex as the next step in a $6 million expansion that could eventually house 26 young adults.

For Kathy Lista, there is no slowing down in her mission to help young adults in Cabarrus County who are aging out of foster care find stability, support and a place to call home.

Since launching The Open Door House in 2018, Lista has watched that mission steadily take shape.

Grace House opened in 2021 with space for two young women. Earlier this year, the nonprofit expanded with Ezekiel House, a home next door built around the same model for two young men that recently welcomed its first resident.
