Remote Learning Again Wednesday for Both School Districts as Ice Persists
Both CCS and KCS will operate remotely on Jan. 28, marking the third straight day students have not been in school buildings.
Winter Storm Fern continues to disrupt the school week across Cabarrus County, as both Kannapolis City Schools and Cabarrus County Schools announced Remote Learning Days for Wednesday, Jan. 28, due to lingering icy road conditions and safety concerns.
This will mark the third straight day that students will have missed in-person learning.
Cabarrus County Schools (CCS) will be closed for in-person instruction, with the district specifying that Wednesday’s Remote Learning Day will include asynchronous instruction only.
Families are encouraged to visit individual school webpages for guidance on assignments and remote expectations.
Kids:Plus will be closed, and all after-school activities are canceled for Jan. 28.
“The safety of our students and staff remains a top priority for Cabarrus County Schools,” the district stated. “Please stay safe in your travels, and thanks for your continued understanding.”

Kannapolis City Schools (KCS) said secondary roads and some areas on school campuses remain unsafe “despite diligent efforts” by district, city, and county operations. As a result, students will participate in remote instruction, with assignments and expectations provided directly by schools.
Staff are to report on-site at 9:00 a.m. and should review district communications for specific guidance on parking areas and building entry points.
“Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and continued support of our students,” the district wrote in its announcement.
