The Salvation Army of Cabarrus & Stanly Counties will honor longtime community leader Carolyn Carpenter later this month during its annual “Toast of the Town” fundraiser in Kannapolis.
The alcohol-free dinner event, scheduled for May 14 from 6-8 p.m. at The Laureate Center, will celebrate Carpenter’s decades of public service and community involvement while raising money to support Salvation Army programs across the two counties.
According to event materials, proceeds from the evening will help fund emergency financial assistance, food support for families in crisis, homeless outreach and housing initiatives, and seasonal assistance and community-building programs.
Friends, colleagues and community members are expected to share stories highlighting Carpenter’s “character, generosity and lasting impact,” organizers said.
Carpenter, a lifelong North Carolinian, has spent decades serving Cabarrus County through both elected office and volunteer work. She served 12 years on the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners and 16 years on the Cabarrus County Board of Education. She continues to support local education as a substitute teacher.
Beyond elected office, Carpenter has also been involved with organizations including the Cabarrus Health Alliance, the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, where she has been a member for 25 years and previously served as chair.
The fundraiser is expected to draw more than 200 community leaders, business owners and civic supporters.
Sponsorship opportunities range from a $1,000 community sponsorship to a $10,000 presenting sponsorship. Shoe Show, Inc. is serving as the event’s presenting sponsor.
The Salvation Army says support from the event helps sustain programs assisting families facing eviction or utility shutoffs, households experiencing food insecurity, youth programming and housing assistance for individuals experiencing homelessness.
Tickets for the event are $50. Attire is listed as “dressy casual.”
