A charity sporting clay tournament hosted by Vulcan Materials Company raised nearly $85,000 to support youth mentoring programs in Cabarrus County and across the region.
The company’s “Pull for Kids” Charity Sporting Clay Tournament was held May 14 at Hyatt Farms Shooting Complex in Polkton. The event brought together 21 teams and 84 participants and generated $84,930 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas, Cabarrus County, according to organizers. Final donation totals will be confirmed after expenses are reconciled.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas serves more than 1,500 children in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus and York counties through community-based, school-based and specialty mentoring programs. The organization said support from community partners has helped create 382 new mentorship matches in Cabarrus County over the past four years.
“Vulcan Materials Company’s investment in Big Brothers Big Sisters is creating lasting change for children across Cabarrus County,” said Elizabeth Hutchins, area director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas in Cabarrus County.
Vulcan Materials Company, the nation’s largest producer of construction aggregates, has operated in the Cabarrus region since 1986 and says community involvement remains a core part of its mission, with a focus on supporting local organizations and youth initiatives.
“Since 2022, through three consecutive Quarry Crusher Runs and the Pull-For-Kids event, Vulcan and community partners have provided over $240,000 to help youth succeed,” said Denise Hallett, community and government relations manager for Vulcan Materials Company. “We are proud to support the invaluable service of Big Brothers Big Sisters to our community.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas has served local youth since 1972 through one-to-one mentoring relationships that pair volunteer mentors, known as "Bigs," with children, known as "Littles." The organization celebrated its 53rd year of service in 2025.
“The impact of these relationships is powerful,” Hutchins said. “Ninety-one percent of the children in our program improved or maintained their grades and academic performance, 100% avoided involvement with the juvenile justice system, and 100% graduated from high school. This support is not only changing lives today, but helping build stronger futures for our children, families and communities.”
