Kannapolis City Schools closed Monday after winter storm
Storm conditions force closure across the district; staff and families urged to stay safe and connected.

Kannapolis City Schools will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26, for both staff and students as Winter Storm Fern continues to bring snow, sleet and freezing rain to the region.
District, school and work locations will all be closed Monday. Staff were advised to monitor district communications for additional information specific to their roles.
The district said the closure is based on weekend impacts from the storm and “expected icy road conditions” that could make travel unsafe across the city.
Updates regarding Tuesday operations are expected to be shared as soon as possible. Families are encouraged to monitor Kannapolis City Schools’ communication channels for the latest information.
“Stay safe and warm!” the district wrote in its announcement.
Cabarrus County Schools has also canceled school for tomorrow.
Heavy icing is still expected later Sunday, with forecasts calling for roughly a quarter- to a half-inch of ice.
Cabarrus County officials have opened an emergency shelter at the Concord Active Living Center (formerly the Concord Senior Center) to support residents affected by ongoing winter storm conditions.
The facility, located at 331 Corban Ave. SE in Concord, is open to anyone in need of a warm, safe place to stay. Visitors should use the main entrance on the far-right side of the property.
